Description:

Four-piece George III/IV Sterling Silver Tea and Coffee Service, London, 1815-25, maker's mark "W.E" probably for William Eley or William Ellerby, comprised of a coffeepot, teapot, creamer, and open sugar, each with a gadrooned rim and engraved oak leaf register to shoulder, raised on four ball feet, coffeepot ht. 9 in., approx. 70.1 troy oz., together with an associated Sheffield silver-plate tray with an engraved armorial to center, Matthew Boulton, maker, lg. 28 3/4 in.

N.B. A copy of the original receipt from Vardi, dated October 14, 1953, accompanies the lot.

Coffeepot with dent to domed lid so that finial is off kilter, and several dents to handle. Teapot with several dents to body, including a large one near handle. Repair to body seam by handle. Sugar with dent to body by one handle, and visible seam to body. Creamer with several dents and visible seam to body. Tray with seemingly intentional removal of silver to portions of armorial. All with age-typical usage wear and surface abrasions.
