Description:

George III Sterling Silver Cake Basket, London, 1766-67, maker's mark pierced through and soldered over, monogrammed, with cast and reticulated bail handle, cast border draped with floral festoons, pierced bowl with reserves of alternating design broken by beaded dividers, on four cast feet with conforming decoration, lg. 14 in., approx. 41.5 troy oz.; together with Antiques at Auction, by Norman Hudson, 1972, p. 223 indicates Richard W. Withington auctioned the basket in July 1964.

Pierced work with scattered repairs and solder marks. Several spots with metal fatigue. Age-typcial usage wear. Lg. 14, wd. 11 3/4, ht. to top of handle 11 1/4, ht. to rim of basket 4 3/8 in.
