Paint-decorated Tall Case Clock, possibly Maine, early 19th century, the white-painted, polychrome, and gilt wooden dial showing a house in the arch with a sailing ship, the salmon red-painted and sponge-decorated case with yellow and brown simulated inlay, the door and base with gilt and black floral designs, (imperfections),ht. 54 1/4 in.
Provenance: Levi Browne, then to Charles Farrar Browne [aka Artemus Ward], then to Percy F. Bailey. Purchased at George Morrill Auction, Waterford, Maine, in 1990.
