Provenance: Family descent of Cornelia Brigham Taft (1823-1809),married to Georgia cotton business owner Calvin Taft (1813-1888) who reportedly attained the painting while trading with southern plantation owners according to the exhibition catalog Merrifield at 23 Trowbridge Road, Worcester Historical Museum, September 23, 2003-December 4, 2004, illustrated p. 17.
