Antonio Nicolo Gasparo Jacobsen (Danish/American, 1850-1921)

Portrait of the Screw Steamer Yacht ATLANTA. Signed and dated "Antonio Jacobsen 1911/31 Palisade Av. West Hoboken, N.J." l.r., vessel identified on brass plaque affixed to the frame. Oil on artist board, 16 x 28 in., in a later molded giltwood frame. Condition: Craquelure with small paint loss in water and left edge.

Exhibitions: Ship Portraits Owned in New Jersey, Monclair Art Museum, Monclair, New Jersey, December 16--February 3, 1974, with an exhibition label applied to the back of the frame.
Estimate $4,000-6,000

Area of craquelure in the water at l.c with a 1/4 x 1/8 in. loss and some edges of craquelure lifting, small paint loss about 1/4 in. dia. at l.r. water; there is a drip on u.r. edge, there several spots on the painting and on left edge where water and sky is painted very thinly and gold underpaint shows through possibly on purpose by the artist.
