Portrait of the Four-masted Scottish Bark STRATHGRYFE. Signed and dated "A. Jacobsen '97" l.r. Oil on canvas, 22 x 36 in., in a later molded gilt-gesso frame. Condition: Relined, minor scattered retouch to sails and sky.
Note: The four-masted steel transport bark Strathgryfe was built by Russell & Co., Glasgow, in 1890. After a couple of Scottish owners she was purchased by a Portuguese company, and on August 24, 1918, the Graciosa, the Portuguese name given her, was sunk by a German submarine off the northwest coast of Scotland.
