A treatment report from C.R. Jones, Conservator, New York State Historical Society, Cooperstown, New York, is available for inspection and will accompany the lot. At the time of the report, the painting belonged to Otesaga Hotel in Cooperstown, New York. The report stated that the canvas was lined and restretched, cleaned, and varnished in 1986. The stretcher appeared to be early 20th century. The treatment report concluded that the original canvas appeared to be no later than late-18th century.

The report also stated that there was little earlier restoration, although the work had been strip-lined. Also, there was in-painting at the upper right to cover pentimento from changes made by the artist that became more visible as the work aged.

Currently, there is minor retouch to the u.r. corner, including an area measuring roughly 5 x 5 inches directly in the corner, and another area measuring 4 x 2 inches just down the right edge. There is also an arc of small dots to the sky, measuring 4 inches overall. There is also a group of small dots to the l.l. corner. There is some general abrasion of the surface from former cleanings, and fine craquelure overall. The figures do not show signs of restoration under uv examination.

There are two small gummed labels, one on the frame and one on the stretcher, stamped in red with the number "3146."

The absence of a condition statement does not imply that the lot is in perfect condition or completely free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of aging.
