Description:

Two American Flags, America, late 19th/early 20th century, both machine-made of wool bunting and cotton fabrics, including a forty-four-star flag which flew sometime between July 4, 1891 and July 3, 1896, and a forty-eight-star flag which was in use sometime between July 4, 1912 and July 3, 1959, both have the name "O.K. Huster" inscribed on the canvas hoists, (one with several darned repairs, both with minor holes),58 x 98, 60 x 112 in.

Note: Reportedly the property of Sergeant Otto Klennan Huster, who was born July 7, 1872, in Hoboken, New Jersey, and served in the Spanish-American War in 1898, in the 3rd Division at Camp Hamilton. He died July 23, 1939, at Cranfield, New Jersey. A photocopy of a photograph of Huster in uniform at the camp accompanies the lot.
