Description:

Rare Gold and Amethyst Intaglio Ring, Marie Zimmermann, by 1928, the amethyst intaglio depicting a Classical scene, the garland shank bezel-set with emerald and sapphires, engraved accents, size 5 3/4, (one emerald missing).

Marie Zimmermann (1879-1972) metalsmith, jeweler, and designer was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. She studied at the Packer Collegiate Institute, Art Students' League, and Pratt Institute. Her diverse influences included Egyptian, Classical, and Chinese forms, and she experimented with these motifs. She ran her studio at the National Arts Club in New York City from around 1910-1937. Her eclectic work is in numerous museums in the United States including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
