Glazed pottery

Newburyport, Massachusetts, 1897-1908
Double handled baluster form in a red and green texturized glaze, stamped Merrimac with fish mark, glaze loss to base edge and minor chip to rim interior, ht. 12 1/2 in.

Note: Merrimac Pottery Company was a New England Arts and Crafts period pottery historically located in Newburyport, Massachusetts. Newburyport is situated at the mouth of the Merrimac River where it meets the Atlantic Ocean. This pottery was destroyed by fire in 1908. Collectors admire Merrimac for the purity of form and their distinctive glazes. They exhibited at the 1904 St. Louis exhibition receiving a Silver Medal.
