Continental Rapier, c. late 16th to early 17th century, ornate gilded-steel hilt with wire wrapped grip, pierced counter-guard with Maltese cross, steel blade marked on one side with C.V.N.S.D. with a series of dots, and on the other side with R.V.T.C.M.B., blade lg. 35 1/2, overall lg. 45 1/4 in.

Some gilding loss on hilt, blade has patina appropriate to its age.
