Classical Gilt George Washington Figural Mantel Clock, France, c. 1840, the gilt Roman numeral porcelain dial with pierced brass hands set into a stylized desk and bookcase with General George Washington in full military regalia standing to the side clutching the Treaty of Alliance in his left hand while his right gestures to the desk with the Declaration of Independence unfurled and a banner with American eagle and shield crowning the vignette, all set on a plinth with a centered garland swag, ribbons and Prince of Wales crest on bracket feet, eight-day time and hour strike spring powered movement with recoil escapement, count wheel strike and silk thread suspension, ht. 15 in.
