Ivory Avalokitesvara with Thousand Arms, China, 20th century, standing on a rectangular two-tier podium decorated with a dragon head on each of the four corners, with downcast eyes and hands folded in prayer, wearing a jeweled robe and a headdress decorated with a miniature statue of Buddha, holding various symbolic objects such as a Pure Water bottle, medicine bowl, pagoda, Buddhist wheel, and vajra, carved characters indicating Sun and Moon bodhisattvas, and the mantra to invoke Avalokitesvara, Qianlong mark incised to base, ht. 18 in.
