Art Deco Platinum and Green Sapphire Intaglio Ring, depicting a Classical battle scene between a Greek soldier and a Persian soldier on horseback, the intaglio measuring approx. 20.50 x 17.00 mm, within a hammered mount, 18.0 dwt, size 10.

Note: Property of The Strong, Rochester, New York, sold to benefit the collections fund.

This ring was owned by Rudolph Valentino (1895-1926),original sex symbol of cinema in the 1920s. Valentino was known for his love of fine clothes and jewelry, and his signature slicked-back hair. This ring was worn in the 1925 silent film The Eagle in which Valentino plays a Russian army lieutenant seduced by Tsarina Catherine II played by Louise Dresser.
