Large Pictorial Wool Hooked Rug with Coastal View of Camden, Maine, made by Mrs. Ruth Guild Tolman (1899-1995),Camden, Maine, c. 1973, the rug depicting iconic Camden, Maine, locations, vessels, and homes favored by Tolman, several identified, including the red barn where she made and sold some of her rugs, the white lighthouse on Curtis Island, the striped lighthouse in Eastport, the Governor Muskie ferry which runs between Lincolnville Beach and the island of Isleboro, the buoy at the entrance to the harbor, red sheds at the harbor used for boat-building in earlier days, the American Boat House (now the Camden yacht building),the Congregational church, the Patchwork Barn in Lincolnville, and Roakes Egg Farm with red building and silo; maker's signature of a star compass in the lower right corner, (rebound, minor repairs, stains),9 ft. 8 in. x 6 ft. 7 in.

Provenance: Purchased by the consignor from Tolman in 1974.

Rebound and repaired c. 2003, with seven areas of minor repair, each area backed with a patch of fabic and the missing stitches rehooked with matching colored wool segments, scattered lighter areas/stains which show in th water, scattered areas of wear where the burlap foundation shows through to the front.
