Five Scrimshaw Seals and a Group of Herreshoff Yacht Manufactory-related Items, the 19th century seals composed of turned bone handles with brass imprints, one with the initials "WVK" for William K. Vanderbilt, co-owner of the yacht Defender, which won the 1895 America's Cup yachting race, together with supporting material regarding the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company of Bristol, Rhode Island, manufacturers of world's greatest yacht designs, among them five America's Cup defenders between 1893-1920; including seven photographs: one showing the manufactory, two depicting yachts built at the manufactory, and four showing the machine and boiler shop employees beside the manufactory; the book Boatbuilders of Bristol, by Samuel Carter III, Doubleday & Co. New York, 1970, relating the story of the yacht-building Herreshoff family of Bristol, (which mentions the Vanderbilt co-ownership of the Defender on p. 94),Yachts by Herreshoff, with history and photographs of the company, an early 20th century Herreshoff Yachts catalog, 1967 and 1977 America's Cup program.
