Description:

Ivory Carving of Seven Lucky Gods, Japan, 19th century, gathered under a pine tree with Benzaiten, the goddess of knowledge, riding a donkey in the center, signed Youhou on an inlaid cinnabar cartouche to base, ht. 2 1/2 in.

Provenance: C. Will Chappell, Oneida, New York; Yamanaka & Co., Atlantic City, New Jersey; Yoshima & Co., Atlantic City, New Jersey; Kondo & Co., Atlantic City, New Jersey; Moore Brothers, Dr, Atlantic City, New Jersey; property by descent of the great-grandniece of Mrs. Chappell; copy of original receipt available.

In good condition with two missing inlaid cartouches on base, detritus on surface.
