Description:

Mahogany Stick Barometer, Frederick Pool, Boston, early to mid-19th century, with molded cornice over wheel-operated vernier, with silvered engraved scales, the top scale engraved "Fred'k Pool/BOSTON/Lowell Institute," over the lower thermometer, both scales with bowed glass, the base with round cistern cover, (imperfectionsht. 38 3/4 in.

The thermometer does not show accurate temperature, mercury is present but there is an empty gap in the tube. Thomas Pool and Son (Frederick) are listed as thermometer makers in the Boston directory of 1828.
