Portrait of the Brig "Rogelimof N. York Capt. A Crowel." Unsigned. Oil on canvas, the back of the canvas with a stamp from the New York firm of Edward Dechaux, 29 x 36 in., in a period molded giltwood frame. Condition: Scattered paint loss, craquelure, puncture u.c. sky.
Provenance: Purchased from the direct descendants of the captain's family, June 1993.
Note: The brig Rogelim was built in 1848 in Waldoboro, Maine, weighed 200 tons, and hailed from New York.

Craquelure with scattered lifting the varnished surface has yellowed, the puncture is about 1/3 in. dia. and backed with a piece of tape, there is a small frayed slit just above the flag and a larger slit at upper left edge of canvas. The paint losses are mainly on the bottom title area and the sky in upper right and left corners few scattered spots in water, .
