Signed "Carroll Cloar" l.r., titled, signed, and dated "...CARROLL CLOAR 1960" in
ink and identified on labels from The Alan Gallery, New York, and the William H. Lane Foundation, Leominster, Massachusetts, on the reverse.
Tempera on Masonite, 23 x 31 in. (58.4 x 78.7 cm),framed.
Condition: Very minor varnish inconsistencies.
Estimate $7,000-9,000

Naturally occurring pigment fluorescence. Variations in the application of pigment to sky are visible in raking light. Tack heads spaced around the perimeter, with two at each corner and one at the midpoint of each side, which serve to attach the strainer to the reverse of the Masonite. These tack heads are covered by the frame. Very minor frame abrasion to u.r. edge at corner, measuring 2 inches across and not more than 1/16 inch deep.
