Signed and dated "Wm H. Beard/1847" l.r.
Oil on canvas, 21 x 17 in. (53.5 x 43.0 cm), in a hand-carved wood frame.
Condition: Puncture, patch reinforcement, retouch, craquelure.

Canvas stencil from Edward Dechaux, New York, on the reverse.

Repaired reverse L-shaped tear, 1 1/2 x 2 inches, with retouch, located center left beneath the wing and corresponding to a patch on the reverse. Puncture measuring 1/2 inch with paint loss at center left, 7 1/2 inches down from the top and 5 1/2 inches in from the left. Scattered pinpoint dots of retouch throughout the sky. MInor retouch at upper corners to cover frame abrasions. Overall stable craquelure.
