Rembrandt van Rijn (Dutch, 1606-1669)
The White Negress, c. 1630, a lifetime impression (Bartsch/Hollstein, 357ii/ii). Unsigned, various collectors' stamps (see below) on the reverse. Etching on laid paper, plate size 3 7/8 x 3 in. (9.7 x 7.5 cm),framed.
Condition: Margins 1/8 inch or more with nicks and loss to left margin (all outside of the plate mark) and repairs to upper margin (going just into the plate mark),dry impression, gentle toning, hinge and glue residue to upper and right edges on verso.
Provenance: Kupferstichkabinett der Staatlichen Museen, Berlin, collector's stamp (Lugt, 1606 and duplicate stamp Lugt, 234); Karl Ferdinand Friedrich von Nagler (1770-1846) stamped twice (Lugt, 2529).
