Description:

Gorlaeus, Abraham (1549-1608) Dactyliothecae, seu Annulorum Sigillarium. Leiden: Henricus a Damme, 1707.
Including both parts, part one contains the engraved title and portrait frontispiece, sixteen pages of text followed by approximately eighty leaves of full paged plates depicting 214 ancient Greek and Roman seal rings; part two consists of sixty-four pages of text, followed by approximately one hundred further full-paged engravings of 682 carved ancient seals, including scarabs, and a twenty-eight page poem in praise of ancient seals and four pages of printer's ads; the two parts bound together in modern blue buckram.
Together with Tacitus's Historiarum, Leiden: Elzevir, 1640, edited by Lipsius and Grotius, both parts, including engraved title and folding table mounted on linen before part two, front board detached, first few leaves glued together with loss, later binding.
Estimate $100-200

Tacitus: front board detached, later binding, piece of the later endleaf stuck to engraved title, along the margin, no loss to the title, folding typographical table bound opposite second title, mounted on fabric, professionally, in good condition. The Dactyliothecae is in a later buckram binding, the edges were trimmed at the time of the rebinding, but not too severely. The contents are toned, with some spotting. It's an illustrated book, and there are many plates.
