Provenance: Descended in the John J. Pigot family to the present owner.

N.B. The lot is accompanied by an unframed chromolithograph reproduction of the painting (18 x 24 in.),marked "Copyrighted 1905 by Pigot Picture Co., Brooklyn, N.Y." within the print at the lower right corner of the wooden chest.

The retouch is several strokes to the background, and more within the boy's clothing. There is scattered craquelure (stable). The work might benefit from cleaning.
