Jaguar tenant un lièvre [Jaguar Devouring a Hare] / Probably a posthumous cast
Signed "A L.BARYE" within the cast on the base l.c., foundry marked "F. BARBEDIENNE.
Fondeur. Paris." within the cast beneath jaguar's tail, stamped "22205" inside the base. Bronze with green-brown patina, 7 x 7 3/4 x 16 in. (17.8 x 15.5 x 39.5 cm).
Condition: Dust and dirt to interstices.
N.B. Pivar notes in his catalogue raisonné that Barye presented this bronze at the Salon of 1850.
