Nude Man Seated on the Ground with One Leg Extended, 1646 (Hind, 221; Bartsch/Hollstein, 1966 II/II). Signed and dated within the plate, collector's marks l.r. and to verso (see below). Etching on laid paper, plate/sheet size 3 3/4 x 6 in. (9.0 x 15.1 cm),matted, framed.
Condition: Trimmed to plate mark, foxing, gentle toning.
Provenance: Pierre Matiette, Paris, 1634-1716 (Lugt, 2096 - mark with date "1681"); through to Pierre Remy, Paris, second half of the 18th century (Lugt, 2173 - the mark with date "1749"); through to John Barnard, London, died 1784 (Lugt, 1419); through to Ugi Battenberg, German, 1879-1957; gifted by him to Oscar and Edna Stirling in 1946; gifted to the present owner by the Stirlings in 1987.
