Signed "Bemelmans" l.r., inscribed "A little sunshine-A little rain/ and your garden
will be the same again--/ "Quite so--Quite so--/but I'm sorry the horse must go" within the composition.
Tempera and graphite on Whatman drawing board, 28 1/4 x 23 1/4 in. (71.8 x 59.1 cm),framed.
Condition: Very subtle bowing to board.
Provenance: Acquired from the artist in 1962 by Hammer Galleries, New York (No. 18743-25); Sotheby Parke Bernet, American, French & Other Modern Paintings, Drawings & Sculptures, November 30, 1966, Sale 2487, Lot 62, [...] purchased in Union, New Jersey, c. 1970; present owners by descent.
