May Fairchild (American, 1872-1959) After Anna Claypoole Peale (American, 1791-1878)

Portrait Miniature of Catherine McFarlane. Inscribed "Painted by May Fairchild after Anne C. Peale" on backing paper, the portrait a copy of the original done by Anna Claypoole Peale with copied signature and date "Anna C. Peale 1821" at l.l., the sitter identified in engraved inscriptions around the back of the case: "Catherine McFarlane, born March 31st 1800, married to Wood Gibson, Aug. 27th 1823, Died Nov'r. 2nd, 1852." Watercolor on ivory, bust length portrait, 3 x 2 1/4 in., in an oval brass pendant case with empty oval aperture on the reverse, further housed in a hinged leather case. Condition: Very good.
