Description:

Leonard Baskin (American, 1922-2000)

Man of Peace, 1952 (Fern & O'Sullivan, 180). Signed "Baskin" in pencil l.r., titled in pencil l.l. Woodcut on paper, image size 60 x 30 3/4 in. (152.4 x 78.1 cm), framed.
Condition: Cockling, staining near upper edge, not examined out of frame.
Estimate $500-600

Due to its great size the work has not been removed from its frame. The full sheet is visible, however, and is very cockled, especially closer to the edges of the sheet. There are some creases along the edges as well. Given the condition of the sheet, it is possible (but uncertain) that part or all of the edges are affixed to the support. The staining along the upper edge are a series of 9 pale spots, each an inch or so across.
