Kew Blas Art Glass Vase
Art glass
Massachusetts
Flared and crimped rim on tapering cylindrical form in gold iridescent zigzag pattern, ht. 7 1/2 in.

Note: The Union Glass Company was established in Somerville, Massachusetts in 1851 and subsequently closed in 1924. Along with the production of pressed and silvered glass, Union Glass was responsible for Kew Blas glassware. The Kew Blas brand was created for a line of iridescent glass produced from 1890 to 1924. The name is a scrambled spelling of the name of the factory manager at the time, W.S. Blake. Kew Blas production implemented iridescent and pulled patterns made popular at the time by other prominent brands such as Quezal and Tiffany. In fact, Thomas Johnson, an English immigrant who was previously employed by Tiffany and was a founding member of the Quezal team eventually left to join Union Glass in 1907, in order to become involved in the production of Kew Blas glassware.
