Large, Elaborate Gilt and Cloisonne Mt. Penglai Island, China, the heavily gilded, rectangular island with overall stylized tortoiseshell motif, with high relief carvings of Mt. Penglai on four sides and a standing figure of the Taoist Lao Tzu, enameled cranes, jade ruyi and deer, and two gilded trees with flowers encrusted with pearls and semiprecious stones; secured to the back of the island is a large, natural turquoise boulder in the shape of a mountain with attached carved coral prunus tree with birds and small gilded flowers, the gilded island sits in a low cloisonne tray decorated with scrolling lotus and tendrils with dragon reserves on the four rims, surmounted on a cloisonne stand decorated with scrolling lotus and tentrils and dragons with gilt blue key fret border, lappet, a pierced floral borders, the four reverse S-curve legs resting on four floral cloisonne stretchers, Qianlong six-character mark cast on base of tray, ht. 32 1/2 x 33 1/2 x 15 1/8 in.
