Pair of Portrait Miniatures of Smith Weed and His Wife Sarah, American School, c. 1835, unsigned, watercolor on ivory, bust-length portraits, 2 3/4 x 2 1/4 in., in matching period molded wood frames with gilt brass liners, (paint very good, portrait of Smith Weed slightly bowed and with crack u.l.).
Note: Smith Weed was born June 16, 1755, and resided in Stamford, Connecticut. He married Sarah Fitch, his second wife, May 28, 1820, and died July 11, 1839, at Albany, New York.
Estimate $300-500
Paint is very good on both portraits, the portrait of Smith Weed is slightly bowed and there is a vertical crack to the upper left background showing about 1/2 in. long.
