Unsigned, inscribed "2299/ Bushkill./ Oct. 1941/ Will Eshbachs Place" and identified
on a fragmentary label from The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, 137th Annual Exhibition of Painting and Sculpture, January 25 to March 1st, 1942, affixed to the reverse.
Oil on canvas, 28 x 32 in. (71.1 x 81.3 cm),unframed.
Condition: Losses/flaking, surface grime.

Provenance: From the artist to Mrs. Sarah (Feeney) Wilson, Wilmington, Delaware, 1943; private New England collection.

N.B. Three letters, including two signed by the artist, accompany the lot.

Water staining to bottom register of work (approx. 4 x 32 inches) with resulting flaking/losses. Partial signature l.l. Abrasions/losses to tacking edges. Strainer bar to the reverse ill-fitted at top. Losses to u.r. quadrant with the largest area measuring approx. 2 3/4 x 5/8 in. Thin washes of retouch measuring approx. 4 1/2 x 3 in. to u.l. quadrant. Unstable flaking throughout.
