Georg Jensen Sterling Six Piece "Cosmos" Pattern Tea and Coffee Service, 1915-32, pattern 45 designed by Johan Rohde, comprising teapot, coffeepot, kettle on stand with burner, creamer, covered sugar, open sugar, all with overall hammered surface and stylized linenfold reeding to base of the ovoid bodies, the pots with reeded fruitwood handles, kettle on stand ht. 13 1/4 in., approx. 116 troy oz. total.

Provenance: All engraved to underside with owner's name, "Gordon Mendelssohn," the name of his yacht, "Quartermore," and dated 1935. This service was part of a suite of Jensen tableware used on the vessel. Mendelssohn was a wealthy notable in Detroit, Michigan, and a patron of the arts. The Lydia Mendelssohn Theatre at the University of Michigan was built through a donation Mendelssohn's in honor of his mother.
