View of Amsterdam from the Northwest, c. 1640 (Bartsch/Hollstein, 210 only state). Unsigned. Etching with drypoint on laid paper with partial foolscap water mark, plate size 4 7/16 x 6 in. (11.2 x 15.0 cm),matted, unframed.
Condition: Thread margins, subtle toning/soiling, annotations to the reverse, thinned spots near lower corners on the reverse.
Provenance: A Rhode Island estate.

The sheet measures 4 1/2 x 6 1/8 inches, and is hinged at the upper corners. The impression is strong but drily printed. The thinning behind the lower left corner is minor; behind the lower right corner it is more prevalent, allowing the ink on the face to show through clearly in an areas less than 1/4 inch across.
The print is a late 17th or early 18th century impression.
