Russell G. Crook Decorated Vase
Stoneware
Wayland, Massachusetts, 1906-12
Decorated with deer grazing in a forest in mottled cobalt blue and slate gray glaze, on cylindrical form swelling toward base, inscribed RC on base, restoration and base chip, imperfections and glaze hairlines created in the firing, ht. 11 7/8 in.

Note: Russell G. Crook is listed as a sculptor, plaster modeler, and potter. He exhibited extensively with the Boston Society of Arts and Crafts from 1899-1927. He was also a member of the Wayland
Massachusetts Society from 1906-1912, where he was known for his animal decoration on earthenware. There are two examples shown in Earliest Reflections, Furnishings From the family of Edwin B. Sears a catalogue published by Society for the preservation of New England Antiquities, (Historic New England),p. 27, and also a piece in the Newark Museum collection.
