(Extra-Illustrated, Original Documents of Nelson, Wellington, George III and Queen Victoria), Green, John Richard (1837-83),The History of the English People, London: 1878-80, Volumes I-IV, full crushed brown gilt tooled morocco by Bayntun, 8vo, extra illustrated with numerous plates, some folding and hand-tinted, (hinges cracked, Vol. I with front board detached, Vol. IV with small header loss to spine),each volume containing an original document as follows: Volume I: George III, King of England (1738-1820),document signed, dated July 9, 1798, one page, an appointment for Thomas Butler, countersigned by Cortland, with seal and two tax stamps, sheet size 11 3/8 x 7 1/2, (folded, tipped onto dedication page); Volume II: Nelson, Horatio Nelson, Viscount (1758-1805),document signed, dated June 12, 1804 aboard the HMS Victory, one page, enlistment paper for Frances Plateau for service aboard the HMS "Narcessus" (sic),signed as "Nelson & Bronte," sheet size 12 5/8 x 8, (tipt to half-title, folds, three fold separations [one approx. 2 1/4, two approx. 1/4"], minor handling wear and light offset, docketed and annotated to reverse); Volume III: Wellington, Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke (1769-1852),signed holograph letter, dated July 13, 1822, two pages, recipient not named, regarding a gentleman residing in Reading, and his apparent madness, urging the recipient to contact the man's acquaintances to alert them to his state, sheet size 9 x 7, (loose from book, with paper loss [but piece adhered to second frontis] at upper edge approx. 1 x 1 1/2", folds, small repaired fold separation at upper edge); and Volume IV: Victoria, Queen of England (1819-1901),signed document, dated January 26, 1976, two pages, a License to Plead in a case of bank fraud, sheet size approx. 16 1/2 x 8 in., (tipped onto second half title at one of the lower folds, with cut/trimming at this area and at lower edge, with seal and tax stamp).
