Description:

Chinese Export Porcelain Coffee and Tea Service, late 18th century, the service decorated with a gilt-starred blue ellipse centered with a pair of birds, with gilt-starred blue rim bands, covers with fruit-form knops, reeded entwined strap handles with blue-glazed leaf terminals, comprising a lighthouse-form coffeepot, two drum-form teapots, sugar bowl, small cream jug with cover, helmet-form creamer, covered tea caddy, twelve small tea bowls, six large tea bowls, nine small saucers, ten large saucers, shallow serving bowl, three small deep bowls, and round and oval lobed dishes, fifty pieces total, (imperfections),ht. 1/2-9 1/2, dia. 3 1/2-7 7/8 in.

Provenance: The Carpenter family of Worcester, Massachusetts.

All have minor enamel and gilt wear to decoration. Lighthouse-form coffeepot-long spreading hairline 2/3 around near base edge, and a line across base; two drum-form teapots: larger-very minor hairline under cover knop about 1 1/2 in. lg.; smaller teapot- very good, sugar bowl- lacking cover, 3 in. line from rim down one side through left side of design; small cream jug with cover- the cover has a shallow chip on the top of the cover rim about 1/4 x 1 in. lg. on blue-gilt-starred border; helmet-form creamer-very good; covered tea caddy- small 1/4 in. shallow chip on underside of cover rim; twelve small tea bowls-five very good condition, four with hairlines from rim, one with a 1/3 in. rim chip, one broken in half; six large tea bowls- one with small chip on table ring, one with a 1 in. line from rim, one with a couple very small rim chips; nine small saucers- seven very good, one with two small rim lines and a small rim chip, one with a 1/4 in. rim chip and a few tiny rim chips; ten large saucers- three very good, five with a few very tiny rim chips, one with a 1/4 in. rim chip, one with 1 in. rim line; shallow serving bowl-two hairlines from rim, one bifurcated; three small deep bowls- two very good, one with 1/4 in. rim chip and a rim line; round and oval lobed dishes-good condition.
