Pair of Abercrombie & Fitch Men's Leather Riding Boots, stamped John Jacob Astor, size 12E, ht. 21 1/2 in.

Note: These riding boots, stamped "John Jacob Astor" may have belonged to John Jacob Astor IV, who married his second wife, eighteen year old Madeleine Talmadge Force, in the ballroom at Beechwood on 1911. Ater several months of honeymoon travel in Europe, the new Mrs. Astor revealed to her husband that she was pregnant. Eager to return home, the Astors booked passage on the RMS Titanic. Madeleine survived the disaster, having been placed in lifeboat No. 4 by her husband. Mr. Astor perished on April 15, 1912, when the liner sank. These boots could also have belonged to the couple's son, John Jacob Astor VI, who was born on September 9, less than five months after his father's death.
