Unsigned, identified "Dieppe by/G. B. Buckton Esq." on a hand-written label on
the stretcher.
Oil on canvas, 23 7/8 x 18 in. (60.5 x 45.9 cm),framed.
Condition: Scattered retouch, surface grime.

N.B. G. B. Buckton achieved renown as a scientist, specializing in entomology and publishing extensively in this area. His works often included his own illustrations. At age five, Buckton suffered an accident that left him crippled for life. He became a fellow of the Linnaean Society in 1845 and a Fellow of the Chemical Society in 1852. James Archer (Scottish, 1824-1904) painted a portrait of G. B. Buckton in 1899.
