Condition: Scattered retouch, lined, craquelure.

N.B. Affixed to the stretcher is a hand-written, partial label that reads" John Porter, d.1793/He married Jane Thornton." Genealogical reserach shows a John Porter of Yorkshire, England, who was married to Jane Thornton, also of Yorkshire. Files give conflicting dates of birth for Porter (c. 1732 and c. 1740),as well as for the marriage (1756 and 1776).
