N.B. Zhao Shao'ang, together with Guan Shanyue, Li Xiongcai, and Yang Shanshen, are known as the Four Masters of the second generation of the Lingnan School of Guangdong painters, who are known for Western-inspired realism in their work. Zhao, in particular, is noted for his skills in flower-and-bird paintings, as well as his calligraphy.
