Description:
Large George III Chinese Chippendale Period Wall Mirror, mid-18th century, with carved tree canopy to cresting, the mirror frame with mirrored borders and composed of icicles, rustic columns, foliate and C-scrolls, ht. 68, wd. 41 in.
Estimate $800-1,200
Very old and dry surface; cracking throughout and heavy restoration to gilding (gold paint on two occasions) and fairly heavy flaking to the silvering; likely the large central plate is replaced and the floral garland going through the middle is a 19th century replacement along with scattered pieces throughout; six inch piece missing from left edge; no backboards to back of central two plates; likley lacking a small plume to top of cresting; it likely hasn't been touched in a hundred years and the overall condition reflects that; age typical defects and losses; great mirror but a huge project.
