Coin Silver and Mother of Pearl Commemorative Ice Cream Slice, America/Canada, mid 19th century, maker's mark partially rubbed, with mother of pearl handle carved with acanthus terminal, the shaped blade stamped with a profile bust titled "Joh. Ronge," with rose head and scrolls, lg. 11 3/8 in., approx. 2 troy oz.

Note: Johannes von Ronge (1813-1887),originally a Roman Catholic priest, was the main organizer of the New Catholic religious organization, which broke away from many practices of the Roman Catholic church. Later called the German Catholics, the group eventually incorporated with a similar Protestant organization called the Friends of the Light, and became the Freireligiose. Due to political and civil disapproval, groups of the Freireligiose emigrated from Europe and England to Canada and America, with settlements including an enduring enclave in the Midwest.

vertical crease running through blade just below handle (more visible from back of blade than from front),with small metal tear approx. 1/8". two short, light vertical creases to blade at upper left side (visible only from back of blade).
