Continental School, 18th/19th Century

Landscape with Seated Man, Woman, and Child
Unsigned, identified on a label from Harvard University Art Museums affixed to the
reverse.
Oil on canvas, 18 1/4 x 22 3/4 in. (46.4 x 57.8 cm), framed.
Condition: Retouch, lined, varnish inconsistencies, tape to tacking edge, craquelure with alligatoring, surface grime.

Provenance: Property of the Fogg Art Museum, Harvard Art Museum, sold to benefit the acquisition fund.
Estimate $700-900

The lining is old and is adhered with glue. The retouch is older, and is scattered throughout the composition, most especially to the corner u.r., and in the middle ground. The craquelure appaers stable, but has some alligatoring. The work would benefit from cleaning.
