Condition: Losses, scattered retouch, surface grime.

N.B. The portrait depicts the Italian patriot Giuseppe Garibaldi (1807-1882). In his youth he was part of the Carbonari, and fled Italy. He later returned to lead in the wars for Italian independence and the unification. He is depicted here as the leader of the "Red Shirts" who won victories from Sicily to Naples in 1860, making Garibaldi a national hero.
