Arts & Crafts Sterling and Enamel Side Plate, Handicraft Shop, Boston, c. 1901-08, hammered surface, with slightly inward curving rim, rim enameled with periwinkle blue and white in stylized flowerbud pattern, later presentation inscription to underside, dia. 7 in., approx. 8 troy oz.
Provenance: Founded in Boston in 1901, the Handicraft Shop produced commissioned items, or items that were sold in the Society of Arts and Crafts retail shop. The Handicraft Shop, a relation of the Society, featured craftspeople who later went on to individual silversmithing fame, including Frederick Gyllenberg, Karl Leinonen, George Gebelin, and Mary Knight.
