Portrait Miniature of a Sea Captain, c. 1825, watercolor on ivory, depicting the gentleman, possibly Samuel Couillard, wearing a blue jacket with black velvet collar and lapels, brass buttons and red vest, with two palm trees on a hill in the background to the left and a ship at sea to the right, 2 1/2 x 2 in., in a lacquered composition frame with gilt-brass liner. Condition: Small area of paint deterioration to background left of left facing collar.

Note: The name "Samuel Couillard" is among several partial inscriptions on the reverse.

The area is about 1/2 x 18 in. it also may possibly be repainted in that spot.
