Glazed ceramic in copper frame
Carver Halsey Riccardo, British, 1854-1926, executed in 1892
Hand-carved De Morgan ceramic tile blanks in period copper frame, depicting a castle flanked by landscape tiles, ht. 9 1/2, wd. 28 in.

Exhibitions: Byrdcliffe: An American Arts and Crafts Colony Touring Exhibition, catalog no. 125, Cornell Museum of Art.

Note: Halsey Riccardo was a British architect and partner of William De Morgan; he made a watercolor sketch to scale and then proceeded to work on the tiles while they were drying modeling the design, they were then fired, glazed, and re-fired, taking up to five firings to complete.
