N.B. Maurice Braun, a well-known California Impressionist painter, had previously trained in the figurative tradition at the National Academy of Design in New York. Braun relocated to Southern California in 1909, partly to further his studies in Theosophy, and embraced the local landscape as his new subject matter. (1) Braun is best-known for his Southern California valley landscapes with Eucalyptus trees, executed in either a cool or warm palette. (2) The present work is an example of his warm palette, characterized as having "tones of salmon, tan, and lavender." (3)
